Backcountry Basics provides clients the option of enrolling in one of our 2-3 day formal clinics with one of our certified Backcountry Basic Instructors. Great riders do not always make great instructors. That is why at Backcountry Basics our instructors are required to have instructional and coaching backgrounds prior to becoming a Backcountry Basic Instructor. Our instructors also go through an actual certification process as to maintain the integrity of our companies teaching techniques and curriculum. The result of combining our enthusiastic instructors and offering 2-3 day clinic packages easily enables Backcountry Basics to cater to those private parties, couples, kids, clubs, organizations, corporate, special needs, and the disabled at an affordable price.
Backcountry Basics specializes in providing straight forward A-Z snowmobiling instructional clinics. The primary focus of the clinics is to meet each client’s individual needs, and we have had a 100% success rate doing so since 2008. Riders not only achieve their individual goals confidently, they are also taught the fundamental skills required to become a safe and skilled backcountry rider regardless of a rider's level of ability.

Backcountry Basics signature foundation lies in Amber Holt's concept, "The Pivotal Pyramid" and is implemented into the effective curriculum. Amber Holt, owner and master instructor of Backcountry Basics spent over two years developing these concepts and the curriculum that has evolved from her 15 year background as a professional instructor.
"I wanted to take a moment to again THANK YOU for your time and patience in working with and training me last weekend in McCall. On Sunday I rode with my husband and one other guy, we went boondocking and I'm proud to say that I was the only one who did not get stuck or trench!"

LEVEL II/III
Recommended for Riders that CAN do basic counter steering, but lack fluid finesse in more difficult scenarios like side hilling at slow speeds, u turns, controlled downhill carves while sled is on its side on steep cambers. This segment concentrates on refining the more technical skills too safely “ride out” of challenging situations. It will help a rider overcome certain mental, obstacle, or terrain challenges that exceeds a riders comfort zone and replace these voids through knowledge and putting their “head in the game” safely.
LEVEL I/II
The first course is recommended for any individual that is novice to experience rider with mostly trail experience only or limited off trail abilities. If a rider CANNOT hold a sled up on one ski for more than 100 yards at slow speeds and maintain a straight line of travel while doing so. This course is needed before advancing onto the next level. It will build confidence, break bad habits that even an experienced rider may have and may be currently holding them back from advancing or executing a particular maneuver. Riders will learn Amber Holt’s ‘Pivotal Pyramid Concept’ and how to apply it at all skill levels. Riders will refine balance, control, and fully understand the correct applications of the 6 rider positions. Backcountry rider common sense, basic avalanche awareness, obstacle avoidance and rider safety will be addressed throughout the course.

Backcountry Basics "SHE CAN RIDE" clinics were created to provide a NON-INTIMIDATING instructional environment for WOMEN ONLY. Technical riding skills, rider safety, and avalanche awareness are taught on a private riding range. A key learning aspect is the classes are kept small and semi-private. The curriculum content was structured by veteran instructor Amber Holt and recognizes the physical and emotional differences needed throughout the learning experience for the female gender. Holt now offers Women’s and couples specific backcountry riding programs that focus on bringing more women confidently into the “sport and style” of western riding with the help of Arctic Cat and the snowmobile tourism industry.

“His and hers” package are a twist off the original “She Can Ride” package. This package is a great way that will help him, help her in getting started. This package awakens a unique perception toward her learning needs. They are structured to provide a getaway package that includes instruction, guide, and stay. First days of range instruction and guided backcountry are planned so that each gender can move at a comfortable personal pace. Couples then finished their stay with a guided backcountry experience strengthing a passionate bond of interest together.
